Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Thursday, March 13, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 7:48 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 44 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed at approximately None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 18 millimeters and a duration of 63 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on March 13, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WIT showed 17 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and durations of 28-71 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 38 tremor events with amplitudes of 2-18 millimeters and durations of 17-61 seconds, and 2 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and durations of 48-69 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,141 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,001 eruptions), while Mount Ibu erupted 876 times.
