Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Melawi Decreased by 5.49% in the Last 5 Years

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Melawi Regency, West Kalimantan, reached 19.73% in 2023.

This figure is down 1.7% from the previous year's 21.43%, and down 5.49% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Melawi Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in Melawi Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are unmet does not reach 19.73% of the total population.
