Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted again this evening, with ash reaching a height of approximately 800 meters.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 4:27 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 30 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to reach 800 meters above the peak (2,384 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 354 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on June 15, 2024, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 239 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 4 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.7-8.1 millimeters and durations of 7-10 seconds, and 3 deep volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-14.7 millimeters, s-p 1.1-2 seconds, and durations of 11-14 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and a sectoral 4-kilometer radius in the North-Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,127 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (490 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 200 times.
