Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again Tonight, Ash Plume Height Around 400 Meters

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) at 7:27 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 8 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 400 meters above the peak or 1,823 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with moderate intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 36.6 millimeters and a duration of 55 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 6, 2025, at 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 31 eruption tremors with amplitudes of 11.2-30.2 millimeters and durations of 30-34 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 rockfall tremor with an amplitude of 2.1 mm and a duration of 41 seconds, and 27 exhalation tremors with amplitudes of 1.4-7.3 millimeters and durations of 28-32 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or conduct activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of potential hazards from rockfall/lava slides and pyroclastic flows from the Southern and Southeastern sectors, Western sector, and Northeastern sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,486 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,197 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 213 times.
