Ministry of Environment and Forestry Finds 465 Hotspots in Indonesia, Most in Aceh (Sunday, January 18, 2026)

Based on the SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), monitoring in the last 24 hours showed 465 hotspots detected in Indonesia. This number of hotspots decreased by 145 points compared to the previous period.

The data is the result of Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA satellite imagery accessed on Sunday (January 18, 2026) at 11:02 AM WIB. Of the 465 hotspots detected, 1 point had a high confidence level, 452 points were medium scale, and 12 points were low scale.

Hotspot confidence levels are divided into 3 scales. Low scale has a range of 0 - 29, medium scale 30 - 79, and high scale 80 - 100. The higher the hotspot confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires occurring in a certain area.

The highest number of hotspots were detected in Aceh, with 96 points. West Kalimantan ranked second with 81 hotspots. Central Kalimantan was in third place with 59 hotspots.

As many as 57 hotspots were detected in East Kalimantan, followed by Central Sulawesi with 33 hotspots, and North Kalimantan and North Maluku each had 26 and 25 hotspots detected.

A hotspot is a coordinate point in an area that has a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and is not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of clustered hotspots in an area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellite detection is still the most effective in monitoring forest and land fires over a wide area.
