Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Evening, Eruption Height Approximately 1,000 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 3:35 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 26 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 1,000 meters above the peak (2,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the north and northeast. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on June 8, 2024, from 00.00 to 23.59 WITA showed 5 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10.3-47.3 millimeters and durations of 167-784 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 25 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-14.8 millimeters and durations of 7-11 seconds, and 9 deep volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.1-20 millimeters, s-p 0.8-1.3 seconds, and durations of 9-16 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the North-Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 933 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (377 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 165 times.
