Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Afternoon, Ash Column Height Around 300 Meters

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (12/11/2025) at 17:27 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok only erupted once.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 300 meters above the peak or 1,723 meters above sea level.

The observed ash column was gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 6.6 millimeters and a duration of 40 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on November 12, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WITA showed 48 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.3-19.1 millimeters and earthquake durations of 30-38 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 230 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.5-7.6 millimeters and earthquake durations of 20-30 seconds, and 1 harmonic earthquake with an amplitude of 1.3 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 385 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or conduct activities within a 2-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and sectorally 2.5 kilometers to the south-southeast and west from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,938 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,786 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 292 times.
