Mount Lewotobi Male Erupts Again Tonight, Ash Plume Reaches Approximately 3,000 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Male in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday (19/9/2025) at 23:07 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Male has erupted 9 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash plume was observed to be approximately 3,000 meters above the peak or 4,584 meters above sea level.

The ash plume was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest and west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 44.4 millimeters and a duration of 311 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Male is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 19, 2025, from 12:00-18:00 WITA, showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 132 seconds.

Furthermore, 1 harmonic tremor with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 32 seconds, and 9 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 87-186 seconds were recorded.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Male and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Lewotobi Male''s eruption.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,161 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,462 times), while Mount Lewotobi Male erupted 508 times.
