Warning! Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, September 9, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (9/9/2025) at 08.32 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 2 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column observed reached 500 meters above the peak or 1,923 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 15 millimeters and a duration of 77 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 9, 2025, from 00.00-06.00 WITA showed 13 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.5-8.9 millimeters and durations of 39-58 seconds. Subsequently, there were 20 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-6.9 millimeters and durations of 22-42 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/climbers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity, to be aware of the potential danger from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, the West sector, and the Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,022 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,416 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 259 times.
