Mount Semeru Erupts Again This Morning (Wednesday, November 26, 2025)

Mount Semeru in East Java erupted again on Wednesday (26/11/2025) at 07:02 AM WIB. In the last week, Mount Semeru has erupted 19 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 500 meters above the peak or 4,176 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the north. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22 millimeters and a duration of 115 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Semeru's activity level is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on November 26, 2025, from 18:00-23:59 WIB showed 45 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 12-22 millimeters and earthquake durations of 49-142 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 puff earthquake with an amplitude of 6 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 74 seconds, as well as 6 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-14 millimeters s-p 13-16 seconds and earthquake durations of 29-57 seconds.

PVMBG advises against any activities in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 20 kilometers from the peak (eruption center). Beyond that distance, people should not conduct activities within 500 meters from the riverbanks (river boundaries) along Besuk Kobokan due to the potential for hot cloud expansion and lava flows.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 7,049 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions, with 2,831 incidents.
