Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Friday, September 5, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Friday (9/5/2025) at 1:13 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 24 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column observed reached None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The eruption''s visual was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 52 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia''s volcano activity report, Mount Ibu''s activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on September 5, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 43 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 37-63 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 3 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 6-9 millimeters and durations of 37-46 seconds, and 12 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-5 millimeters and durations of 37-179 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu''s active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,972 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,391 times) while Mount Ibu erupted 2,188 times.
