The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.19 million cases by Thursday, September 15, 2022. Lesotho ranks first, with a 40.74 percent weekly increase in Omicron cases. GISAID recorded 114 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 40.74 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Iceland, which recorded a 17.19 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 5.22 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Then, Guam reported 390 additional Omicron cases (up 11.43 percent), Mongolia saw a 10.5 percent increase to 505 cases compared to the previous week, and Japan reported 215,340 additional Omicron cases (up 8.98 percent).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, as of Thursday, September 15, 2022, there were 21,704 Omicron cases, a 0.16 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
