The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) reports that most Indonesian Hajj pilgrims' deaths in the last five years (2016-2022) occurred in Saudi Arabian hospitals.
A total of 1,111 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims died in Saudi Arabian hospitals during this period. The highest number of deaths occurred in 2019 (349), while the lowest was in 2022 (46).
Furthermore, 574 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims died in their accommodations between 2016 and 2022. The highest number of deaths in accommodations was in 2017 (248), and the lowest was in 2022 (16).
“A significant number of deaths still occur in accommodations,” according to the Kemenkes report received by *Databoks.co.id* on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
Meanwhile, 117 pilgrims died at the Indonesian Hajj Health Office (KKHI) between 2016 and 2022. The highest number was in 2017 (62), and the lowest was in 2022 (19).

* 2016: Saudi Arabian hospitals – 157, accommodations – 113, KKHI – 33.
* 2017: Saudi Arabian hospitals – 314, accommodations – 248, KKHI – 62.
* 2018: Saudi Arabian hospitals – 245, accommodations – 112, KKHI – 3.
* 2019: Saudi Arabian hospitals – 349, accommodations – 85, KKHI – 0.
* 2022: Saudi Arabian hospitals – 46, accommodations – 16, KKHI – 19.
According to Kemenkes, the most common cause of death among Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in 2022 was ischemic heart disease, accounting for 41 deaths (46.06%) of the total 89 deaths that year.
