COVID-19 Cases Remain Highest in Banda Aceh City, Aceh Province

Banda Aceh is among the Indonesian cities with a relatively high number of reported COVID-19 cases. The weekly positive COVID-19 confirmation rate on Sunday, September 26, 2021, reached 68.79 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This places it first among the 23 other regencies/cities in Aceh province.

According to the Ministry of Health, the high rate of COVID-19 transmission in this region is one of the indicators that resulted in Banda Aceh receiving a level 4 (limited) assessment. This limited assessment applies to response capacity and tracing. The other two indicators measured, testing and treatment, received moderate and adequate assessments, respectively.

However, despite the high confirmation rate, the number of hospital inpatient beds used is relatively low, with a bed occupancy rate (BOR) of only 23.65 percent. As shown in the chart, the latest data indicates five patients per 100,000 inhabitants per week.

Compared to other regencies/cities, the latest COVID-19 data shows Banda Aceh has the highest national death rate. As shown in the chart, the size of the circle representing this regency is the largest compared to other regions (the larger the circle, the higher the death rate, indicating a worsening situation).

To control COVID-19 in this region, 9,244 specimens were examined in the last seven days. Banda Aceh's positive rate is recorded at six percent.

Regarding the COVID-19 vaccination update in Banda Aceh, 68.52 percent of the population has received the first dose, totaling 130,380 vaccine recipients. Of this number, 84,303 people have received the second dose, achieving a 44.3 percent rate.
