The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.78 million cases by Thursday, December 1, 2022. According to GISAID data, New Zealand recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 21,588 new cases. This represents 0.37 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Next is Algeria, which recorded a 14.02 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 0.27 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in Mauritius increased by 9.55 percent to 4,254 cases compared to the previous week; in Morocco, cases rose by 7.41 percent to 1,044 cases compared to the previous week; and in Bangladesh, there were 1,943 new Omicron cases (a 4.13 percent increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 29,023, a 1.31 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
