10 Indonesian Provinces with the Highest Commercial Tourism Revenue in 2024

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 4,557 commercial tourism business units in Indonesia in 2024.

Commercial tourist attraction businesses are tourism businesses that charge an entrance fee or require visitors to pay for something, such as renting a venue, buying souvenirs, and so on.

In 2024, all commercial tourist attraction businesses in Indonesia generated revenues of Rp11.63 trillion. The majority, or 85.5%, of this came from ticket sales.

"If divided by the number of existing tourist attractions, one business unit would, on average, generate a turnover of approximately Rp2.55 billion," BPS stated in its report Statistics of Tourist Attractions 2024.

By region, Central Java was the province with the highest revenue from commercial tourist attraction businesses, reaching Rp2.77 trillion.

Provinces with commercial tourism revenues exceeding Rp1 trillion in 2024 were generally located on Java Island.

"This is related to the number of commercial tourist attractions still concentrated on Java Island," BPS stated.

Here is a list of the top 10 provinces with the largest commercial tourist attraction business revenues in Indonesia in 2024:

1. Central Java: Rp2.77 trillion
2. Bali: Rp2.56 trillion
3. DKI Jakarta: Rp2.09 trillion
4. East Java: Rp1.06 trillion
5. West Java: Rp1.04 trillion
6. DI Yogyakarta: Rp760.69 billion
7. Banten: Rp188.85 billion
8. North Sumatra: Rp148.38 billion
9. Riau: Rp119.88 billion
10. South Sulawesi: Rp96.71 billion
