Knight Frank's 2023 Wealth Report analyzes global real estate and property investment statistics. The research team states that private investors were the most active buyers in global commercial real estate in 2022, investing an estimated US$454.8 billion (Rp6,799.26 trillion, based on an exchange rate of Rp14,950 per US$ on May 25, 2023). Institutions and state-owned entities followed with US$440.1 billion in investments, while the general public invested US$122.4 billion.
With a total of Rp6.7 quadrillion invested, private investors diversified across various real estate and property sectors. The largest investment was in apartments, totaling US$194.9 billion (Rp2,913.75 trillion), indicating significant global investment in apartment construction.
The second largest investment sector was offices, at US$84.1 billion (Rp1,257.29 trillion), followed by industrial and logistics properties at US$70.3 billion (Rp1,050.98 trillion). The smallest investment was in condominiums, at US$2.5 billion (Rp37.37 trillion).
The research team noted that "housing for multiple families or the private rental sector, and office assets, attracted the greatest interest, as reflected in our attitudes survey." The survey showed that 43% of respondents had invested in offices and 40% in industrial assets. Ownership in retail, science, healthcare, private rental, data centers, real estate, and education sectors all increased in 2022 compared to the previous year.
The Attitudes Survey analyzed responses from over 500 private bankers, wealth advisors, and family offices representing over US$2.5 trillion in combined wealth. The survey was conducted in November 2022.
