Doubt about Effectiveness: The Main Reason for Public Reluctance Towards the Second COVID-19 Vaccine Dose

A survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), in collaboration with Change.org and Kawal Covid-19, reveals that 6.1% of respondents were hesitant or unwilling to complete the second phase of the coronavirus vaccination, despite having received their first dose.

Of this group, 56.8% expressed doubt about the vaccine's effectiveness, while 23.7% cited excessively severe side effects as their reason.

Concerns about crowds accounted for 12.2% of hesitant respondents, while 10.1% stated they had recently recovered from coronavirus.

Another 3.6% each cited current coronavirus infection and a belief that vaccination was unnecessary as reasons for hesitancy. Difficulty obtaining vaccine appointments was cited by 29% of respondents.

A further 1.4% lacked the time for a second dose, and 5% gave other reasons.

The online survey was conducted across Indonesia from August 6-22, 2021, with 8,299 respondents. Of these, 6,468 reported having received a coronavirus vaccine.

2,288 respondents had only received their first dose, while 139 were hesitant or unwilling to complete the second phase of vaccination.
