With the increasing Omicron rate in Indonesia, 166 regencies/cities are currently aggressively conducting Covid-19 tests above the national average. Data as of Saturday, April 23, 2022, shows a national average of 2.31 tests per 1,000 people per week.
The top five, starting from the highest, are Jayapura City, Mimika, Teluk Wondama, Badung, and Manokwari, with 14.01, 13.82, 13.15, 13, and 12.62 tests per 1,000 people per week, respectively.
Jayapura City ranks first. With a population of 309,760, the number of people tested here is recorded at 14.01 per 1,000 people per week. The latest positive rate is 0.23 percent. The positive rate in this region has decreased compared to the previous week's ratio.
Next is Mimika. The population in this region is recorded at 221,810. In an effort to counter the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of people tested is 13.82 per 1,000 people per week. The positive rate in this region is recorded at 0.2 percent, also down from the previous week's percentage.
Then, Teluk Wondama recorded 13.15 tests per 1,000 people per week, Badung 13 tests per 1,000 people per week, and Manokwari 12.62 tests per 1,000 people per week.
Anticipating the impact of Omicron in various regions, based on a recapitulation of national Covid data, there are 286 regencies/cities in Indonesia actively reporting a higher daily number of people tested than before. Meanwhile, 90 other regencies/cities recorded a lower number of people tested compared to the previous week.
Areas outside Java with the highest number of people tested include Jayapura City, Mimika, and Teluk Wondama, with 14.01, 13.82, and 13.15 tests per 1,000 people respectively.
Although Covid-19 transmission in some areas has decreased, the government urges everyone to continue reducing Covid-19 transmission by always wearing masks, maintaining distance, and frequently washing hands with soap and running water. Avoiding crowds and reducing mobility also contribute to suppressing the spread of the coronavirus.
