The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.17 million cases by Saturday, May 28, 2022. Eswatini ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 157.75 percent. GISAID recorded 366 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 157.75 percent compared to the previous day.
Namibia follows with a weekly Omicron case growth of 141.78 percent. Daily figures show a 141.78 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, totaling 213 new cases.
Next is Aruba with 147 additional Omicron cases (a 61.54% increase), Mauritius with a 46.05 percent increase to 1,294 cases compared to the previous week, and Russia with 3,312 additional Omicron cases (a 42.88% increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 11,325, a 0.11 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its first detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
