According to data from the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI), approximately 795,300 Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) were placed in overseas employment during the 2022-2024 period.
The majority, or 44%, were high school/vocational school graduates, followed by 31% with junior high school education, and 22% with elementary school education.
Only 2% were diploma graduates, 1% were bachelor's degree holders, and 0.02% held postgraduate degrees, with the detailed numbers shown in the graph.
BP2MI also recorded that during the 2022-2024 period, PMIs most frequently worked as house maids, caregivers, general workers, plantation workers, and production operators.
BP2MI's definition of PMI is an Indonesian citizen (WNI) who works and receives wages outside of Indonesian territory.
This PMI data includes Indonesian citizens working for legally registered employers, working for individual/household employers, seafarers, and fishing vessel crew.
However, this PMI data does not include Indonesian citizens working/residing abroad who meet the following criteria:
* Indonesian citizens sent or employed by international bodies/other countries to carry out official duties;
* Indonesian civil servants/employees working at Indonesian representative offices;
* Indonesian citizens working for institutions funded by the State Budget;
* Indonesian citizens with independent businesses abroad;
* Indonesian citizens abroad as students and trainees;
* Indonesian citizens abroad as refugees or asylum seekers; and
* Indonesian citizens abroad as investors.
