America Records the Highest Number of Omicron Cases Globally with 2.33 Million Cases

The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.19 million cases by Saturday, April 1, 2023. The United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 0.65 percent. GISAID recorded 2.33 million Omicron cases in the US. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.08 percent compared to the previous day.

The United Kingdom follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the UK grew by 0.33 percent. Daily Omicron case numbers in the UK increased by 0.09 percent compared to the previous day, totaling 1.43 million cases.

Next, the number of Omicron cases in Japan increased by 0.41 percent to 398,140 cases compared to the previous week. France reported 343,290 Omicron cases (up 0.51%), and Canada saw a 1.36 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 270,630 cases compared to the previous week.

Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 34,963, a 0.22 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.

The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
