This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia show a decline in death tolls in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Eleven countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while 28 others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
Percentage-wise, the five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Israel, Qatar, Cyprus, Nepal, and Uzbekistan. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of December 19, 2021, were 73, representing a weekly growth of over 27.78 percent.
Israel recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in Asia, with weekly growth reaching 233.33 percent. Worldometer recorded 20 deaths in the country, a 0 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Qatar followed in second place, with a 100 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. Daily death figures, however, showed a 0 percent decrease compared to the previous day's two deaths.
Deaths in Cyprus increased by 42.86 percent, Nepal by 38.46 percent, and Uzbekistan by 27.78 percent (23 deaths).
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, India recorded the highest number of deaths in Asia over the past seven days, with 2,030 deaths. This represents a 3.7 percent decrease compared to the previous week. Following India, Vietnam reported 1,701 deaths (a 9.74 percent increase), Turkey 1,275 deaths (a 3.7 percent decrease), the Philippines 608 deaths (a 29.79 percent decrease), and South Korea 461 deaths (a 14.96 percent increase).
A total of 8,564 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 17.86 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, which totaled 47,953. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which saw 9,086 deaths.
