The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.11 million cases by Saturday, July 2, 2022. Kenya recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 14.72 percent. GISAID recorded 3,321 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.15 percent compared to the previous day.
Brunei Darussalam followed with a weekly Omicron case growth of 12.76 percent. Daily Omicron cases in this country increased by 4.31 percent compared to the previous day, totaling 1,788 cases.
Next, Belgium reported 49,525 additional Omicron cases (a 10.35% increase), Puerto Rico saw a 10.31 percent increase to 4,879 cases compared to the previous week, and Brazil reported 48,618 additional Omicron cases (an 8.7% increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, 13,056 new Omicron cases were recorded as of yesterday, a 3.1 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
