The surge in Indonesian Covid-19 cases has forced hospitals, particularly in Java and Bali, to increase bed capacity. Capacity ranges from 1.6% to 79.7%.
Based on data from the Ministry of Health, Jakarta has added the most Covid-19 beds compared to other provinces. Jakarta had 14,533 Covid-19 beds as of May 18, 2021, increasing to 20,548 by July 3, 2021. This represents a 41.4% increase in bed capacity within a month and a half.
Hospitals in the capital are no longer able to accommodate all Covid-19 patients. The government has therefore added centralized isolation facilities for patients with mild symptoms. These patients will be referred to the Wisma Atlet Emergency Covid-19 Hospital, Nagrak Rusun, Pasar Rumput Rusun, and Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory.
Central Java saw the largest conversion of beds for Covid-19 patients, reaching 79.7%. The local government added 6,564 beds, bringing the total to 14,796.
Unfortunately, Bali reduced its hospital bed allocation for Covid-19 by 1.6%. As a result, only 2,016 beds are specifically allocated for patients infected with the coronavirus.
