The Ministry of Health recorded 60 foreign nationals (WNA) from India who entered Indonesia with a positive Covid-19 status between December 28, 2020, and May 30, 2021. This number is the highest compared to foreign nationals with a positive corona status from other countries.
Benget Saragih, the Head of Sub-Directorate for Health Quarantine at the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Ministry of Health, stated that one of the foreign nationals from India carried the new corona variant B.1.617. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified this variant as a "variant of concern" because it has been proven to spread more quickly.
Besides India, foreign nationals from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates also entered Indonesia while infected with corona. The numbers are 41 and 37 respectively. Furthermore, 28 foreign nationals from Japan who arrived in Indonesia were also detected as positive for corona.
The government continues to urge everyone to comply with the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is urged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
