The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 837,670 cases by Monday, February 7, 2022. Japan ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 313.04 percent. GISAID recorded 8,740 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.18 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is India, which recorded a 158.28 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 0.4 percent compared to the previous day.
Following this is Bangladesh with an increase of 178 Omicron cases (up 157.97 percent), Poland with a 153.09 percent increase to 10,187 cases compared to the previous week, and Slovakia with an increase of 582 Omicron cases (up 113.97 percent).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 3,780 as of today, a 0.21 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
