The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.76 million cases by Thursday, March 3, 2022. According to GISAID data, Montenegro recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 92 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Montenegro currently represents 0.01 percent of the global total.
Next is Guinea, which reported a 268.42 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. However, daily data shows a 4.11 percent decrease in new Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Following this are Ghana with 292 additional Omicron cases (a 265% increase), Lithuania with 2,790 additional Omicron cases (a 253.16% increase), and Zambia with 310 additional Omicron cases (a 169.57% increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases increased to 6,880, a decrease of 4.03 percent compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has been steadily rising.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
