The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.17 million cases by Saturday, December 17, 2022. According to GISAID data, Andorra recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 316 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Andorra currently represents 0.01 percent of the global total.
Ukraine follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases reaching four percent, reporting 885 new cases. Daily statistics show a 2.31 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 865 cases.
Next, Chile reported 19,822 new Omicron cases (up 3.43%), China (PRC) with 689 new Omicron cases (up 3.3%), and Japan with 298,020 new Omicron cases (up 3.27%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases has reached 30,620, a 0.22 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
