The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 936,090 cases by Saturday, February 5, 2022. The United Kingdom ranks first, with a 40.47 percent weekly increase in Omicron cases. GISAID recorded 362,600 Omicron cases in the UK. Daily cases in this region increased by 2.43 percent compared to the previous day.
The United States follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the US grew by 58.9 percent, reaching 308,950 cases. Daily statistics show a 4.15 percent increase compared to the previous day's 296,630 cases.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in Denmark increased by 55.77 percent to 59,119 compared to the previous week; in Germany, cases rose by 153.06 percent to 37,587; and in Canada, cases increased by 72.25 percent to 22,718.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 3,375, an 11.87 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has steadily risen.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
