The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.45 million cases by Friday, February 25, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United Kingdom recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, at 510,660. This represents 35.32 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United States follows with a weekly growth of 7.92 percent in Omicron cases, totaling 472,860. However, daily Omicron cases showed a 5.93 percent decrease compared to the previous day's 502,650 cases.
Denmark saw a 3.63 percent increase in Omicron cases to 83,239 compared to the previous week. Germany reported a 0.33 percent increase to 65,128 cases, while France saw an 11.89 percent increase, reaching 39,109 cases.
As of the latest data, Indonesia recorded 6,453 Omicron cases, a decrease of 0.83 percent compared to the previous day. However, since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have been steadily rising.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
