The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.64 million cases by Thursday, May 11, 2023. Paraguay ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases of 18.26 percent. GISAID recorded 1,891 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 18.26 percent compared to the previous day.
Following Paraguay is China (PRC). Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in China increased by 5.19 percent. A total of 28,485 new Omicron cases were reported. Daily statistics show a 0.27 percent increase compared to the previous day, which recorded 28,408 cases.
Next, Albania saw a 2.51 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 777 cases compared to the previous week. Ghana saw a 2.47 percent increase, reaching 2,324 cases compared to the previous week, and Vietnam reported 5,742 Omicron cases (a 2.13 percent increase).
In Indonesia, as of today, 36,344 Omicron cases have been recorded, a 0.22 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, the number of Omicron cases in Indonesia has continued to rise.
