Based on a report from the Indonesian Hajj Pilgrimage Organizing Committee (PPIH) in Saudi Arabia, 47 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims passed away by the 26th day of the Hajj pilgrimage. This data was collected on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024, at 9 PM Saudi Arabian time, or Thursday, June 6th, 2024, at 1 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
Of this number, 25 pilgrims died in Mecca, 16 in Medina, 4 at embarkation points, and 2 at the airport.
“All deceased pilgrims will have their Hajj pilgrimage performed on their behalf (badalhaj),” said Widi Dwinanda, a Media Center officer from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, in an online press conference on Thursday, June 6th, 2024.
Furthermore, as the departure phase of the Hajj pilgrimage nears its end on June 10th, 2024, the Masjidil Haram is becoming increasingly crowded, particularly during prayer times.
This has resulted in a buildup of pilgrims at the Syib Amir terminal, the point of arrival and departure for Indonesian pilgrims to and from the Masjidil Haram. Consequently, pilgrims are experiencing fatigue while waiting for buses.
“To avoid overcrowding at the bus terminal, pilgrims are advised to return to their hotels 30 minutes to 1 hour after prayers,” said Widi.
In addition, after performing prayers, pilgrims are also advised to use umbrellas or wide-brimmed hats to avoid direct sun exposure at the terminal.
