Indonesia is among the world's largest coffee-consuming countries. According to data from the International Coffee Organization (ICO), Indonesian coffee consumption reached 4.6 million 60 kg (60 kg) packages in the 2016-2017 period.
This data places Indonesia sixth in the world in terms of coffee consumption, after Russia.
One readily available way to consume coffee is through pre-packaged coffee or sachets. So, which packaged coffee brands are most consumed by Indonesians?
A Kurious survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) shows that Kapal Api is the most frequently consumed packaged coffee brand over the past year, accounting for 66.2% of total respondents.
Second is Good Day at 58.8%, followed by Kopi ABC at 47.9%.
Of the 19 packaged coffee brands shown, the least consumed brands were JJ Royal and Cafe21, each with a proportion of 1.5%.
"Besides being one of the most well-known brands, Kapal Api is the sachet coffee product consumed by the majority of respondents in the past year," Kurious wrote in its report.
This top brand survey of packaged coffee involved 458 respondents, conducted from January 27 to February 4, 2023.
Data was collected using the CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interviewing) method with a margin of error of 3.84% and a confidence level of 95%.
