National Clove Production Increases; Ministry of Agriculture Projects 140,997 Tons in 2021

Indonesia has significant potential as one of the world's leading clove producers. Over the past five years, national clove production has shown an upward trend. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, clove production in 2021 is estimated to have reached 140,997 tons. This figure represents a slight increase of 0.13% compared to the previous year's 140,812 tons.

In terms of productivity, national clove productivity in 2021 is estimated at 416.7 kg/ha. This figure also shows only a slight increase from the previous year's 416.2 kg/ha. The national clove plantation area totals 573,873 hectares, dominated by smallholder farms (98.74%).

Clove export value was recorded at US$111.5 million with a volume of 25,900 tons in 2019, a 9.6% increase compared to the previous year's US$101.7 million. Meanwhile, export volume increased by 28.37% from the previous year's 20,200 tons.

The value and volume of clove exports are expected to continue improving due to increasing global demand for cloves. The main export destinations for Indonesian cloves include India, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore.

By province, East Java was the largest clove producer in 2019, with 10,517 tons. This was followed by West Java with 8,403 tons, Central Java with 7,269 tons, Aceh with 5,513 tons, and East Nusa Tenggara with 3,576 tons.
