107 Thousand Hectares of Rice Fields Damaged by the Sumatra Disaster, Largest in Aceh

The floods and landslides that struck parts of Sumatra Island in late November 2025 have damaged many rice fields.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), as of January 13, 2026, the total area of rice fields damaged by the disaster reached 107,324 hectares (ha).

"This consists of 56,077 ha of lightly damaged rice fields, 22,152 ha of moderately damaged, and 29,095 ha of severely damaged," said Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman during a working meeting with Commission IV of the House of Representatives on Wednesday (January 14, 2026).

The rice fields damaged by this disaster are spread across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The most extensive damage was recorded in Aceh, with the following details:

Aceh (21 regencies)

• Lightly damaged: 23,893 ha
• Moderately damaged: 8,760 ha
• Severely damaged: 21,581 ha
• Total: 54,234 ha

North Sumatra (15 regencies)

• Lightly damaged: 30,078 ha
• Moderately damaged: 12,570 ha
• Severely damaged: 4,687 ha
• Total: 47,335 ha

West Sumatra (14 regencies)

• Lightly damaged: 2,105 ha
• Moderately damaged: 822 ha
• Severely damaged: 2,827 ha
• Total: 5,754 ha

To rehabilitate the agricultural sector affected by the disaster, Kementan requested an additional budget of Rp5.12 trillion, bringing the ministry's total budget for 2026 to Rp6.61 trillion.

This budget is planned to be used for land and irrigation rehabilitation, seed provision, livestock feed assistance, and the provision of other agricultural infrastructure.

"We prioritize the allocation of these aids to the most affected areas in the three provinces, especially lightly to moderately damaged rice fields," said Amran.
