124,000 Cosmetic Products Registered with BPOM in 2024: Here Are the Types

The National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) reported that 124,368 cosmetic product distribution permits were registered throughout 2024.

According to their categories, facial cleansers were the most registered products, reaching 9,013 products last year.

This was followed by eau de parfum (7,479 products), lip color (7,310 products), body or hand care products (7,248 products), and skin lighteners (5,254 products).

In addition, BPOM invited influencers and content creators to collaborate in educating the public about choosing safe cosmetics.

In line with cosmetic review content by influencers on social media, BPOM assessed that this has a positive impact on public awareness regarding the safety, benefits, and quality of cosmetics.

However, on the other hand, BPOM observed some reviews that were not comprehensive and violated regulations. One example is content related to independent test results of products suspected of containing hazardous substances or excessive claims (overclaims).

"Only BPOM, as the authorized agency for supervision, has the right to declare 'approved' for cosmetic products," said BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar in a statement, as reported from the BPOM website on Friday (17/1/2025).
