This is East Java's City with the Highest Food Security in 2023

Madiun City had the highest food security in East Java in 2023.

This is recorded in the *2023 Food Security Index* report released by the National Food Agency (Bapanas).

Bapanas measured the Food Security Index (IKP) in Indonesian cities based on two main assessment pillars: food affordability and food utilization.

The food affordability pillar is assessed using indicators such as the percentage of the population below the poverty line, the percentage of households with food expenditure exceeding 65%, and the percentage of households without access to electricity.

The food utilization pillar is then assessed using indicators such as the average years of schooling for women over 15 years old, the percentage of households without access to clean water, the ratio of population to health workers, the percentage of stunted children under five, and life expectancy at birth.

The assessment results are formulated into a score on a scale of 0–100. The higher the score, the better a city's food security is assumed to be, with the following classifications:

* Very Vulnerable: 0–28.84
* Vulnerable: >28.84–41.44
* Somewhat Vulnerable: >41.44–51.29
* Somewhat Resistant: >51.29–61.13
* Resistant: >61.13–70.64
* Very Resistant: >70.64–100

In 2023, all cities in East Java had food security classified as "very resistant".

Madiun City achieved the highest level of food security with an IKP score of 92.49. Kediri City had the lowest score in the province, as shown in the graph.
