Dairy cows are cows specifically raised for milk production. However, the dairy farming industry in Indonesia has been declining in recent years.
This is evident from the report, *Statistics of Dairy Farming Companies*, released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS).
According to BPS data, in 2018 there were still 36 dairy farming companies in Indonesia.
Then in 2019 the number increased slightly, but since 2020 the number of units has steadily decreased, leaving only 30 companies in 2022.
The figures recorded here represent the number of dairy farming companies with legal entities/business entities, encompassing dairy cattle breeding, dairy cattle farming, and milk collection.
This decrease in the number of companies is also accompanied by a decline in the dairy cow population in Indonesia.
BPS recorded a 12.9% decrease in the national dairy cow population in 2022 compared to 2021, marking the lowest record since 2018.
