The 2015 National Socioeconomic Survey by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) indicates that per capita rice consumption in March 2015 was 98 kilograms per year. This figure is higher than the previous year's 97.2 kg per year.
This per capita consumption is calculated based on various rice-containing dishes, including rice in the form of cooked rice, glutinous rice, rice flour, and other rice-based foods. Furthermore, other food groups containing rice that are included in the calculation are vermicelli, packaged baby porridge, wet cakes, nasi rames (mixed rice), fried rice, plain white rice, and lontong sayur (rice cake in vegetable soup).
Nationally, annual rice consumption, according to the survey, reached Rp 64,000. This expenditure is higher in rural areas at Rp 71,000 and lower in urban areas at an average of Rp 57,000.
