According to data from the Ministry of Trade, a number of staple food items in Indonesia experienced price increases at the beginning of 2026.
The commodity with the highest price increase was red onions. On January 6, 2026, its national average price reached Rp49,300 per kilogram, an increase of 11.8% compared to a year ago (year-on-year/yoy).
Price increases also occurred for chicken meat and eggs, bulk and premium cooking oil, beef, wheat flour, and bulk granulated sugar.
The only staple food item whose price remained unchanged compared to a year ago was premium rice.
However, there were also commodities whose prices decreased, namely medium rice, imported soybeans, Minyakita brand cooking oil, as well as chili and garlic.
Below are the details of food items whose prices increased on January 6, 2026, compared to a year ago:
- Red Onions: Rp49,300 per kilogram, up 11.8% (yoy)
- Broiler Chicken Meat: Rp41,800 per kilogram, up 4.8% (yoy)
- Broiler Chicken Eggs: Rp33,800 per kilogram, up 3.4% (yoy)
- Bulk Palm Cooking Oil: Rp18,100 per liter, up 2.3% (yoy)
- Beef Hindquarter: Rp141,200 per kilogram, up 1.9% (yoy)
- Wheat Flour: Rp13,400 per kilogram, up 1.5% (yoy)
- Premium Packaged Palm Cooking Oil: Rp22,300 per liter, up 1.4% (yoy)
- Bulk Granulated Sugar: Rp18,300 per kilogram, up 0.5% (yoy)
These are the food items whose prices remained unchanged on January 6, 2026, compared to a year ago:
- Premium Rice: Rp16,300 per kilogram
And these are the food items whose prices decreased on January 6, 2026, compared to a year ago:
- Medium Rice: Rp14,500 per kilogram, down 0.7% (yoy)
- Imported Soybeans: Rp14,700 per kilogram, down 2% (yoy)
- Minyakita Cooking Oil: Rp16,800 per liter, down 2.9% (yoy)
- Curly Red Chili: Rp45,800 per kilogram, down 10.4% (yoy)
- Honan Garlic: Rp38,800 per kilogram, down 12.2% (yoy)
- Large Red Chili: Rp46,600 per kilogram, down 14% (yoy)
- Red Bird's Eye Chili: Rp61,500 per kilogram, down 15.9% (yoy)
