The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports a significant increase in both domestic and international air passengers in April 2025.
BPS states that the total number of domestic air passengers reached 5.44 million in April 2025. This volume surged by 26.72% month-on-month (mom) compared to March 2025, which recorded 4.29 million passengers.
This increase was observed across all major airports monitored. BPS noted increases at Juanda Surabaya Airport (65.56%), Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport (54.54%), Kualanamu Medan Airport (50.65%), Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport (48.95%), and Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport (12.65%).
BPS also recorded that Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport had the highest number of domestic passengers, reaching 1.34 million or 24.74% of the total domestic passengers. Juanda-Surabaya Airport followed with 548,000 passengers, representing 10.06%.
Cumulatively, from January to April 2025, the number of domestic air passengers totaled 19.26 million. However, this figure decreased by 2.38% year-on-year (yoy) compared to the same period last year, which recorded 19.73 million passengers.
In international flights, BPS recorded 1.58 million passengers in April 2025, a 11.13% increase (mom) from March 2025's 1.42 million passengers.
BPS detailed that passenger increases occurred at Kualanamu-Medan Airport (30.43%), Juanda-Surabaya Airport (18.02%), Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport (13.78%), and Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport (2.88%). However, a decrease was observed at Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport (-22.41%).
Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport had the highest number of international passengers, reaching 672,000 or 42.42% of the total international passengers. Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport followed with 599,500 passengers, representing 37.85%.
BPS calculated that from January to April 2025, the number of international air passengers, using both national and foreign airlines, reached 6.32 million, a 10.13% increase (yoy) compared to January-April 2024, which recorded 5.74 million passengers.
