Domestic and international air passenger traffic slumped in February 2025. This aligns with a report released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
In domestic flights, the number of passengers transported reached 4.41 million. This passenger volume plummeted by 13.75% from January 2025, which recorded 5.11 million passengers.
Historically, this passenger decline has been occurring since January 2025, as shown in the graph.
BPS stated that the decrease in passenger numbers occurred across all major airports observed: Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport (27.22% decrease); Kualanamu-Medan Airport (24.55% decrease); Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport (16.47% decrease); Juanda-Surabaya Airport (15.09% decrease); and Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport (7.57% decrease).
The highest number of domestic passengers was recorded at Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport, with 1.2 million passengers, or 28.06% of the total domestic passengers. This was followed by Juanda-Surabaya Airport with 359,500 passengers, or 8.15%.
BPS added that cumulatively, in January-February 2025, the number of domestic air passengers totaled 9.52 million, a 1.36% increase year-on-year (YoY) compared to the same period last year (9.4 million passengers).
Meanwhile, the number of international flight passengers also decreased. BPS recorded 1.58 million passengers, an 8.89% drop from January 2025's 1.74 million passengers.
Passenger numbers decreased at Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport (15.27% decrease); Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport (5.99% decrease); Kualanamu-Medan Airport (5.34% decrease); and Juanda-Surabaya Airport (2.62% decrease). However, Hasanuddin-Makassar Airport saw a 1.82% increase in passenger numbers.
BPS also calculated that the highest number of international passengers was at Soekarno Hatta-Tangerang Airport, with 725,300 passengers, or 45.86% of the total international passengers, followed by Ngurah Rai-Denpasar Airport with 524,000 passengers, or 33.13%.
The total number of passengers in January-February 2025 using both domestic and international flights was 3.31 million. This figure represents a 14.5% YoY increase.
