Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, March 1, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 09:09 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 86 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 700 meters above the peak (2,025 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the north. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 94 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on March 1, 2025, from 18:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 26 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 10-28 millimeters and durations of 23-100 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 45 tremor events with amplitudes of 3-15 millimeters and durations of 16-36 seconds, and 5 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 4-11 millimeters and durations of 51-131 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a 5-kilometer sectoral extension towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,759 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (830 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 750 times.
