Blue Bird's fleet size has shrunk over the past five years, coinciding with the rise of online taxi services.
According to the company's financial reports, in 2021, Blue Bird's regular taxi fleet numbered 13,487 units. This figure represents a 20.49% decrease year-on-year (YoY), marking the lowest point since 2017.
Blue Bird's limousine and rental car fleets saw an increase between 2018 and 2019. However, their numbers began to decline in 2020, falling a further 2.88% (YoY) to 4,882 units in 2021.
The only fleet segment to show growth in the last five years is executive taxis, although the increase was not significant. Meanwhile, the number of buses and shuttles decreased in 2021 compared to the previous year, as shown in the graph.
Despite its shrinking fleet, Blue Bird is considered a competitor by online taxi drivers. On Monday, September 12, 2022, thousands of online taxi drivers demonstrated in front of Gojek's office, demanding the removal of Blue Bird from the GoCar ride-hailing service.
"Because it impacts GoCar orders that go to Blue Bird," read one of their demands, as reported by *Katadata.co.id* on Monday, September 12, 2022.
