The increase in fuel prices has impacted consumer interest in purchasing new motorcycles. This is evident from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) report, which shows a decline in domestic and export motorcycle sales in September 2022.
Domestic motorcycle sales recorded 514,460 units, a decrease of 1.97% month-on-month (mom) compared to August 2022, which totaled 524,821 units.
However, this figure is up approximately 10.72% year-on-year (yoy) compared to September 2021 sales of 464,614 units.
Similar to domestic sales, motorcycle exports also experienced a decline. In September 2022, export sales volume reached 75,012 units, down 0.62% (mom). However, year-on-year, sales increased by 11.04% (yoy).
Cumulatively, domestic motorcycle sales from January to September 2022 reached 3,612,360 units. Total motorcycle exports from Indonesia reached 568,460 units during the same period.
By category, scooter sales contributed the most to both domestic and export sales. Scooter sales accounted for 87.62% of total domestic sales and 70.21% of total exports.
Underbone motorcycle sales contributed 6.70% to total domestic sales and 10.75% to total exports.
Meanwhile, sport motorcycle sales accounted for 5.68% of total domestic sales and 19.03% of total exports.
