A Charta Politika survey shows that most Indonesian citizens are not interested in switching to electric vehicles despite the increase in fuel prices.
Note that the government raised fuel prices on September 3, 2022. A recorded 61% of respondents stated they were not interested in switching to electric vehicles after the fuel price increase.
“The majority are not interested in switching to/buying electric vehicles. The main reason is the price of electric vehicles, which is considered still too expensive,” according to the Charta Politika survey results released Thursday (September 22).
Meanwhile, only 28% of respondents said they were interested in switching to electric vehicles following the fuel price increase.
The remaining 11% of respondents said they did not know/did not answer the survey question.
Besides the high price, other reasons for people's reluctance to switch to electric vehicles include uncertainty or lack of knowledge about the technology and how to use it. Some respondents also stated a preference for fuel-powered vehicles.
Another reason cited was the difficulty in obtaining electric vehicles in the respondents' areas of residence.
This survey was conducted from September 6-13, 2022, involving 1,220 respondents across Indonesia. The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews using a multistage random sampling method with a margin of error of approximately 2.82%.
