Based on data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), wholesale sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the domestic market in December 2022 reached 2,404 units, the highest achievement throughout the year.
Cumulatively, total wholesale sales of BEVs in Indonesia from January to December 2022 reached 10,327 units.
The best-selling electric car throughout 2022 was the Wuling Air EV Long Range with 6,859 wholesale units, followed by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Signature Extended with 1,517 units, and the Wuling Air EV Standard Range with 1,194 units.
Electric vehicle sales are expected to continue to strengthen in the coming years, considering that the government is currently preparing a policy for electric vehicle subsidies.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut B. Pandjaitan stated that Indonesia will continue to push for the acceleration of the adoption of battery-based electric motor vehicles (KBLBB).
"We have finalized (the policy related to KBLBB) at yesterday's Limited Meeting. Next week, the Ministerial Regulation from the Ministry of Finance regarding subsidies and so on should be issued, hopefully (it can be announced) in early February," said Coordinating Minister Luhut at the Saratoga Investment Summit 2023 in Jakarta on Thursday (26/1/2023).
"(The subsidy) is approximately Rp7 million for new electric motorcycles, and everything will be announced later, it will be prioritized for ordinary people," he continued.
Last month (14/12/2022), Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita also mentioned the planned amount of subsidies or incentives for electric vehicle buyers as follows:
* Electric cars: Rp80 million
* Hybrid cars: Rp40 million
* Electric motorcycles: Rp8 million
* Conversion of gasoline motorcycles to electric motorcycles: Rp5 million
However, this amount is not yet final. Subsidies will only be given for the purchase of electric vehicles produced in Indonesia.
