The development of national electric vehicles is still largely a discussion. However, this policy must be implemented to reduce dependence on oil, whose production and reserves are dwindling, while the number of motor vehicles is increasing, thus increasing the demand for fuel. This is to prevent an energy crisis in the future.
Currently, the government is drafting a Presidential Regulation on the Acceleration Program for Electric Motor Vehicles for road transportation. There are at least four targets and objectives in this acceleration program, namely regarding Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPLU), electric cars, electric motorcycles, and hybrid cars (a combination of electric and fuel-powered vehicles).
The targets and objectives for accelerating the adoption of electric cars include the availability of 1,000 SPLUs by 2025, increasing to 10,000 by 2050. Furthermore, the number of electric cars is targeted at 2,200 units by 2025, increasing to 4.2 million units by 2050.
