The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that domestic air travel in Indonesia strengthened in June 2025. The number of domestic flight passengers was recorded at 5 million, up 10.25% month-on-month (MoM) from 4.53 million in the previous month.
In its report, BPS detailed that the increase in passenger numbers occurred at all major monitored airports, with the highest growth at Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, up 18.61%. This was followed by Kualanamu-Medan at 11.43%, Soekarno-Hatta–Tangerang at 9.01%, Ngurah Rai–Denpasar at 7.18%, and Juanda–Surabaya at 0.815%.
Among these airports, the highest number of domestic passengers was recorded at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, with 1.3 million passengers, accounting for 26.55% of the total domestic passengers. It was followed by Juanda-Surabaya with 437.8 thousand passengers, or 8.75% of the total.
From January to June 2025, BPS calculated a total of 28.8 million domestic air passengers, a decline of 5.48% year-on-year (YoY) compared to 30.5 million passengers in the same period last year.
This condition contrasts with international flights, which declined to 1.65 million passengers in June 2025, down 5.87% MoM from 1.75 million in May 2025.
The sharpest decrease occurred at Hasanuddin Airport–Makassar, down 66.83%. This was followed by Soekarno-Hatta–Tangerang at 3.85%, and Juanda–Surabaya at 0.59%.
On the other hand, increases in international passengers were seen at Kualanamu–Medan, which rose 4.52%, and Ngurah Rai–Denpasar, up 2.25%.
The largest number of international passengers was recorded at Ngurah Rai–Denpasar, with 682.9 thousand passengers, accounting for 41.24% of total outbound air travelers. This was closely followed by Soekarno-Hatta–Tangerang with 681.6 thousand passengers or 41.16%.
Cumulatively from January to June 2025, the number of international air passengers—both on national and foreign airlines—reached 9.7 million, marking a 9.11% YoY increase.
